Description
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of handguns as well as proficiency in safe firearm handling; must have some prior shooting experience. This class meets the requirements of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for individuals to obtain their Texas License to Carry a Handgun in accordance with the requirements of Texas Government code §411.188.
The overall objective of the course is to educate students on the responsibilities and laws applicable to handgun license holders. It includes in-class instruction, a written examination, and a handgun proficiency demonstration course.
The class contains four instruction modules, required by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and are outlined below:
• Handgun use and safety, including use of restraint holsters
• Laws that relate to weapons and to the use of deadly force
• Non-violent dispute resolution
• Proper storage practices for handguns
Each student will be given the current DPS LTC student test and each student must complete the test independently. The proficiency demonstration will be conducted by a certified Texas LTC Instructor using the current course of fire, as determined by the Department of Public Safety. A passing score of 70% is required for the written and the proficiency demonstration for successful completion.

Expectations and Outcomes
Student will demonstrate shooting proficiency. Student must score 170 on shooting proficiency and successfully complete the classroom testing. Texas DPS will use license to carry card once student has successfully passed test.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.
