Description

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course is for every level of firearm enthusiast from beginner to expert. This course equips the students with the knowledge, skills, and attitude to safely and accurately fire different pistol types and covers in depth everything a new shooter needs to know about handgun operation.

The topics covered in this course include Pistol Knowledge & Safe Gun Handling, Ammunition Knowledge & Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting, Shooting Positions & Shooting Qualification,  Scoring Targets & Selecting and Maintaining Your Pistol, and Continued Opportunities. A passing score in both a written examination and live fire training is required to receive certification. Students will receive NRA Guide: Basic of Pistol Handbook and a completion certificate (upon passing requirements).

Expectations and Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Basic Pistol course, students are expected to understand the safe care and handling of handguns. Students will be able to exhibit firearms safety rules, identify types of handguns and common handgun parts, identify the different types of handgun malfunctions, correctly choose ammunition for various firearms and identify characteristics of ammunition. Students will properly handle and receive handguns, properly load and unload, function check, clear malfunctions, and care and maintain their handguns. Proficiency in firing a handgun will be demonstrated during the qualifying course and upon completion be issued a certificate.

Documentation Requirements

PLEASE EMAIL INSTRUCTOR A COPY OF YOUR NC DRIVERS LICENSE OR STATE ID BEFORE CLASS.

PLEASE ARRIVE 15 MINUTES EARLY TO FILL OUT PROPER PAPERWORK.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.

Please bring the following items with you:
         **NO AMMUNITION IS ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM**
Semi-automatic pistol (9mm or 22 preferred) to qualify for certification
Proper Ammunition for pistol brought to qualify (around 250 rounds)
Ear Protection
Eye Protection
Brown Bag lunch (microwave and refrigerator are available)
Folding chair for the range (optional)

What to wear (we will be utilizing an outdoor range so please check the weather app)
