Description

This course is designed for experienced shooters and to register, you MUST provide ONE or more of the following documents:

  •     An NRA Basic Pistol Course certificate OR
  •     An NRA Competitive Pistol Shooting Qualification Card OR
  •     Copy 4 of a DD-214 with Pistol Qualifications OR
  •     NRA First Steps Course Certificate OR

This course is available to only law-abiding citizens of the United States of America, as defined by federal, state and local laws. A valid driver’s License (from any State in the U.S.) or a current passport is required to take this course. This is a good course for learning what to do if you encounter an intruder in your home. Some topics include mental preparedness, basic defensive shooting skills; strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation; firearms and the law; how to choose a handgun for self-defense; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Lesson II of this course—Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense—is conducted by an attorney licensed to practice law within the state in which this course is given and who is familiar with this area of the law; a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) who possesses an intermediate or higher Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate granted within the state; or an individual currently certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state in which this course is presented

Expectations and Outcomes

UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDE ESSENTIAL TO THE SAFE AND EFFICIENT USE OF A FIREARM FOR PROTECTION OF SELF AND FAMILY, AND TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN’S RIGHT TO SELF-DEFEND. STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE UPON PASSING WRITTEN EXAMINATION AND PROFIENCY IN FIRING A HANDGUN DURING THE QUALIFYING COURSE.

Semi-automatic pistol (9mm or 22 preferred) to qualify for certification
Proper Ammunition for pistol brought to qualify (around 100 rounds)
Ear Protection

Brown Bag lunch (microwave and refrigerator are available)
Folding chair for the range (optional)
