  • Tactical Movement & Shooting: Advanced techniques focusing on the critical concepts of "Move to Shoot" (moving to a position of advantage before engaging) and "Shoot then Move" (disengaging or seeking cover after engagement). This includes practical drills for moving dynamically while managing your firearm.

  • One-Handed Pistol Manipulation: Developing proficiency in shooting, reloading, and clearing malfunctions with both the dominant and non-dominant hands.

  • Combat Mindset & Situational Awareness: Cultivating a prepared defensive mindset, enhancing observational skills, identifying potential threats, and understanding the "fight or flight" response in a critical incident.

  • Legal & Ethical Considerations of Self-Defense: An essential overview of the laws governing the use of force, justified self-defense, and post-incident considerations. Requirements

To ensure a safe and productive learning environment, all participants must meet the following stringent requirements:

  • Prerequisite Training: All participants must possess and demonstrate a strong foundational understanding of firearm safety rules, basic pistol operation, and fundamental marksmanship skills. This prerequisite can be fulfilled by:

    • Documented Training: Successful completion of an NRA Basic Pistol Course or a verifiable equivalent (proof of training required).

    • Skills Assessment Challenge: For students without prior formal training, proficiency may be demonstrated by successfully challenging and passing a mandatory pre-course skills assessment administered by the instructor. Contact us prior to registration if you intend to pursue this option.

  • Age:

    • Participants must be at least 18 years of age by the first day of the course.

    • Minors: Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian who also participates in the entire course. Both the minor and guardian must meet all other course requirements.

  • Personal Firearm: A reliable and serviceable semi-automatic pistol or revolver chambered in .380 ACP, .38 Special, or larger calibers (.9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP recommended). The firearm must be in safe working order and suitable for defensive use.

  • Ammunition: A minimum of 154 rounds of new, factory-manufactured ammunition is required for this course. Having no less than 200 rounds is strongly recommended, with 300 rounds or more being ideal for maximum benefit from drills and repetitions. Reloaded ammunition is strictly prohibited.

  • Essential Equipment:

    • Holster: A high-quality, rigid holster designed for your specific firearm. This includes strong-side outside-the-waistband (OWB), inside-the-waistband (IWB), and Appendix Inside-the-Waistband (AIWB) holsters. The holster must:

      • Fully cover the trigger guard.

      • Securely retain the firearm (even when inverted).

      • Allow for a safe, consistent draw stroke without requiring the trigger finger to activate retention mechanisms.

      • Prohibited Holsters: SERPA-style or other holsters that require the trigger finger to disengage a retention mechanism, and soft/nylon holsters (e.g., "Uncle Mike's" style) that do not maintain their shape when the firearm is drawn, are strictly prohibited. Cross-draw holsters are also not permitted.

    • Magazine/Speed Loader Holders: A minimum of three (3) magazine carriers for semi-automatic pistols or two (2) speed loader/speed strip pouches for revolvers. These should securely hold your spare ammunition.

    • Magazines/Speed Loaders: A minimum of three (3) functional magazines for semi-automatic pistols, or two (2) speed loaders/speed strips for revolvers.

    • Belt: A robust, rigid gun belt specifically designed to support the weight of a holstered firearm and loaded magazines/speed loaders.

    • Eye Protection: ANSI Z87.1 rated wrap-around eye protection.

    • Hearing Protection: Electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended for enhanced safety and instruction comprehension. Passive hearing protection is acceptable if electronic is not available.

    • Range Attire: Appropriate clothing for an outdoor range environment. This includes closed-toe shoes, a sturdy collared shirt (to prevent hot brass from falling into sensitive areas), long pants, and a hat with a brim (e.g., baseball cap) for sun and brass deflection. Avoid low-cut necklines.

    • Note-Taking Gear: Notepad and pen/pencil for classroom instruction and debriefs.

    • Hydration: Water bottle or hydration system (water will be available, but personal hydration is encouraged).

  • Responsible Mindset: Participants must possess a mature, responsible, and teachable attitude towards firearms safety, defensive tactics, and the legal implications of using force. An open mind and willingness to follow all instructor commands are paramount.
