Description
Secure Your Sanctuary with Confidence
Your home is your ultimate safe haven, but true security is more than just a locked door. The NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home course is designed for those who want to move beyond basic target practice and master the realities of defending their family within a private residence.
This course is built directly around our mission: providing you with the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude to Own, Use, and Carry a firearm Ethically, Safely, and Confidently.
While basic courses teach you the mechanics, this program focuses on the Carry component—which, in the home, means the tactical responsibility of having a firearm ready for immediate defensive use. We dive deep into the tactical, legal, and psychological realities of a home encounter. You will learn how to navigate your home safely, utilize cover, and manage the intense physiological "fight or flight" response, ensuring you are prepared to act decisively and ethically under pressure.
Topics Covered
Our curriculum follows the official NRA national standards, organized to help you master the ability to Own, Use, and Carry a firearm for protection.
Introduction to Defensive Shooting: Transitioning from target-shooting to a defensive mindset.
Strategies for Home Safety: A comprehensive look at "hardening" your home, creating a safe room, and developing a household emergency plan.
Firearms, Self-Defense, and the Law: A deep dive into the legal right to use deadly force, the "Castle Doctrine," and the legal aftermath of a defensive encounter.
Defensive Accuracy: Mastering the "Flash Sight Picture" and shooting for center-of-mass under time constraints.
Safe Handling & Maintenance: Ensuring your defensive firearm is kept in peak operational condition and handled with 100% safety during high-stress moments.
Range Drills: Practicing the fundamentals of defensive marksmanship, including clearing common malfunctions and emergency reloading.
The "Carry" Component: Training on how to safely present a firearm from a concealed holster or a staged home-defense location.
Tactical Movement: Learning how to use cover and concealment effectively and the basics of navigating corners and "fatal funnels."
Psychological and Physiological Effects: Understanding how the body reacts to a life-threatening situation and how to overcome the "fight or flight" response.
Selecting Firearms and Ammunition: Evaluating the best tools and ballistics for the specific environment of a private residence.
Expectations and Outcomes
This is an intensive, hands-on course that balances classroom theory with live-fire range work. You should come prepared to be challenged mentally and physically. We maintain a professional, focused, and supportive environment where safety is the absolute priority.
Throughout the day, you will move from discussing legal and tactical concepts to applying them in real-world shooting scenarios. Our instructors will provide personalized feedback to ensure you are building habits that will serve you in a crisis.
By the conclusion of this course, you will have achieved the following:
Tactical Proficiency: You will be able to safely present your firearm from a holster or staged position and engage a threat with defensive accuracy.
Strategic Planning: You will leave with a personalized Home Defense Plan, including safe room strategies and a "defense in depth" approach for your residence.
Legal Awareness: You will have a clear understanding of the ethical and legal requirements for using deadly force and how to navigate the immediate aftermath of an encounter.
Stress Management: You will understand how to recognize and manage the physiological effects of a high-stress situation, allowing you to remain "Confident" in your actions.
Official Certification: Upon successful completion, you will receive the NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home Course Certificate, a recognized standard in defensive training.
