Description
Born from the need to shoot accurately to stop the threat, this SBC course pushes the participates to learn where to shoot to stop the threat, shift from soft focus to hard focus, and develop a personal standard of acceptable accuracy. Shooting from retention and over the shoulder.
Course Fundamentals:
- Understand how both speed and accuracy are affected by “Focus Target Shooting rather than Sighted Shooting”.
- Using the DIBs drill emphasizes target acquisition for faster trigger pull.
- Introduction and use of the Mozambique adds target transition to the mix.
All combined this series builds the participates skill in acquiring the target, breaking the shot, transitioning if needed all while established a personal standard of accuracy. Overall “defensive tactics” improve.

FIREARM & AMMUNITION
- Rifle or Carbine
- AR-15–style carbine or comparable semi-automatic rifle (NOT Bolt action)
- Must be in safe, serviceable condition
- Optics must be “zero” prior to course
- Ammunition
- 200-250 rounds (factory ammunition only unless approved)
- Correct caliber for your firearm
MANDATORY SAFETY EQUIPMENT
- Eye protection (ANSI-rated shooting glasses)
- Ear protection
- Earplugs, earmuffs, or electronic hearing protection
WEAPON SUPPORT GEAR
- Magazine(s)
- Minimum 2–3 magazines (more recommended for efficiency)
- Rifle sling
- Single-point or two-point sling (required for most carbine courses)
- Magazine carrier or pouch (belt or chest-mounted, if instructed)
PERSONAL ITEMS
- Government-issued photo ID
- Closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops)
- Baseball cap or brimmed hat (recommended for brass deflection)
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Outdoor range conditions

- Hydration (water or electrolyte drink)

- Steel-core, tracer, or armor-piercing ammunition
- Unapproved firearms or calibers
- Loaded firearms arriving on range unless directed
