Description

Countering the Mass Shooter Threat opens with a groundbreaking, data-driven examination of active shooter events across the United States. This course moves beyond emotion and media narratives to analyze the facts, trends, and outcomes of these incidents — equipping responsible citizens, educators, and protectors with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about prevention and response.

Course Overview

Part One provides a clear, evidence-based look at mass shootings: where and how they occur, how law enforcement responds, and what factors influence the outcome of each event. Using verified data and independent research, this section challenges common assumptions and evaluates the effectiveness of proposed solutions.

After events such as Newtown (Sandy Hook Elementary), national conversations often center around firearm bans, magazine capacity limits, and new legislative controls. This course examines whether such measures have statistically affected the outcome of mass shootings — and what the data truly show about their impact.

Participants will also explore whether shooters target gun-free zones, how victim response can change survival outcomes, and what influence various gun control policies (such as universal background checks or watch lists) may have.

Key Learning Objectives

By the end of Part One, students will:

  • Understand verified data and trends surrounding mass shootings in the United States.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of legislative proposals such as firearm bans and magazine capacity limits.

  • Assess the role of gun-free zones and their impact on shooter behavior.

  • Analyze the importance of victim response and how it influences casualty rates.

  • Learn the facts about universal background checks, terrorist watch lists, and no-fly lists, and their relevance to preventing future attacks.

  • Gain the ability to discuss these issues confidently and factually when engaging in community or policy conversations.
