Documentation Requirements

Ready to take the next step in your handgun training? Our Basic Holster Draw Class is designed to teach responsible shooters how to safely and confidently draw from an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster.

This course is the required next step before advancing to Defensive Shooting, ensuring students have the foundational safety skills and range competence needed for more dynamic handgun training.

Requirements

This is NOT a Basic Handgun course.

Students MUST arrive already proficient in the Four Universal Firearm Safety Rules and basic handgun fundamentals. You will be required to demonstrate safe, competent handling of your firearm at the beginning of class.

If you cannot confidently perform the items below, this course is not appropriate — please complete a Basic Handgun course first.

Students are required to bring their own handgun and compatible holster to class. Rental firearms are not provided for this course.

You must also bring a minimum of 100 rounds of factory ammunition.

  • Ammunition is available for pre-order or may be purchased in the shop prior to class (subject to availability).

  • Outside ammunition is welcome.

  • No steel case, aluminum case, or reloaded ammunition is permitted.

Please ensure your firearm, holster, belt, and ammunition are appropriate and ready prior to arrival so class time can be used efficiently and safely.

You must know and strictly follow these at all times:

  1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.

  2. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.

  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you intend to fire.

  4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Failure to follow these rules will result in immediate removal from the course.

Students must be able to demonstrate:

  • Safely load, unload, and clear their handgun

  • Lock the slide to the rear and manipulate all controls safely

  • Work the action reliably (racking, cycling, operating controls)

  • Consistent muzzle discipline

  • Proper trigger finger discipline

  • Safe and stable stance and grip

If you are unable to safely perform these skills, you will be referred to a foundational class before attempting holster work.

  • Outside-the-waistband (OWB) holsters are required for this class.

  • Inside-the-waistband (IWB) concealment holsters are not permitted due to liability concerns.

    • IWB holsters may be used only if they are fully visible (for example, shirt tucked in and holster clearly exposed).

  • Appendix carry and deep concealment setups are not allowed in this course.

Holster must be rigid, securely mounted to a proper belt, and fully cover the trigger guard.

Holster work introduces increased risk and responsibility. This course is designed for shooters who already demonstrate safe firearm handling and are ready to advance to structured draw and re-holstering training.
