Description
Children’s and Family AR Rifle Familiarization is an introductory, safety-focused course designed to provide children and their families with a basic understanding of AR-platform rifles in a controlled and supervised educational environment. The course focuses on firearm safety, terminology, components, basic functions, and foundational shooting concepts.
Students will learn:
- Shooting Fundamentals — An introduction to the seven fundamental principles of shooting and how they contribute to safe, consistent, and responsible firearm handling.
- AR Rifle Familiarization — Identification of the primary components of an AR-platform rifle and an introduction to their basic functions.
- Basic Rifle Terminology — An overview of common terminology used to identify rifle components and discuss their basic operation.
- Basic Functions — An age-appropriate introduction to the basic operating functions of an AR-platform rifle.
- Safe Handling Practices — Reinforcement of proper firearm safety rules, muzzle awareness, trigger-finger discipline, and following instructor directions.
- Family Learning — Parents, guardians, and students participate together to develop a shared understanding of safe and responsible rifle handling.
The goal of this course is to provide students and their accompanying adults with a strong foundation in AR-platform rifle terminology, components, basic functions, safety, and shooting fundamentals while emphasizing responsible firearm ownership and continued supervised education.

Expectations and Outcomes
Upon successful completion of Children’s and Family AR Rifle Familiarization, students should be able to:
- Identify the major components of an AR-platform rifle and describe their basic functions.
- Recognize common AR rifle terminology used during firearm instruction.
- Explain the basic functions of an AR-platform rifle at an introductory, age-appropriate level.
- Identify the seven shooting fundamentals and explain their role in safe and consistent shooting.
- Demonstrate appropriate basic handling practices under direct instructor supervision.
- Demonstrate proper trigger-finger discipline and muzzle awareness.
- Recognize safe and unsafe firearm-handling behaviors and explain how to respond to an unsafe situation.
- Follow basic instructor commands and safety procedures in a controlled training environment.
- Explain the importance of responsible firearm handling, continued education, and adult supervision.
- Demonstrate a foundational understanding of AR-platform rifles without relying on the firearm for defensive or tactical purposes.
The overall goal is for students and their accompanying adults to leave with a safe, age-appropriate foundation in AR-platform rifle knowledge, terminology, handling, and shooting fundamentals.

Requirements
- Prerequisite Required: Students must successfully complete Children’s and Family Firearm Safety Basics before participating in Children’s and Family Handgun Familiarization.
- Prerequisite Verification: Students will not be approved for enrollment or provided the class password for Children’s and Family Handgun Familiarization until completion of the required prerequisite has been verified.
- Minimum Age: Students must be 7 years of age or older to participate.
- Required Chaperone: Every student must be accompanied by one parent, legal guardian, or designated adult chaperone for the entire course.
- 1-to-1 Ratio — No Exceptions: The required ratio is 1 student to 1 adult chaperone. One adult may not supervise, accompany, or be responsible for more than one student.
- Chaperone Fee: The required parent, guardian, or chaperone attends free of charge. Only the student is charged for the course.
- No Live Firearms or Ammunition: Absolutely no live/real firearms or ammunition may be brought to the course. This includes firearms carried on the person, in bags, cases, vehicles, or other personal belongings brought into the training area.
- Training Environment: This is a firearm familiarization and education course. No live-fire training is conducted, and students will not need to bring a firearm or ammunition.
Prerequisite Policy: Completion of Children’s and Family Firearm Safety Basics is mandatory. There are no exceptions to the prerequisite requirement.
