Description
Children’s and Family AR RIFLE Range Session is the live-fire portion of the Children’s and Family training series. This course provides students with the opportunity to apply the safety principles, familiarization skills, and shooting fundamentals learned in the previous courses during a supervised 50-round range session.
The session focuses on developing safe and consistent shooting fundamentals, including:
- Proper shooting stance and body position
- Grip and firearm control
- Sight alignment and sight picture
- Trigger control
- Breathing and follow-through
- Safe loading and unloading procedures
- Following range commands and maintaining proper range etiquette
- Building confidence through controlled, instructor-supervised live-fire exercises
The course is structured as a 50-round shooting series, allowing the instructor to progressively reinforce fundamental shooting skills while maintaining an emphasis on safety and responsible firearm handling.
Training Firearms: Rifles/firearms may be provided by Frogbones for use during the course, subject to availability and instructor approval.
Included in Course Price: Targets and eye and ear protection are included and provided as needed.
Ammunition: Ammunition is NOT included in the cost of the class. Students are responsible for providing or purchasing the required ammunition for the 50-round session.
This course is conducted under direct instructor supervision and is intended to provide students with their first structured experience applying their previously learned firearm safety and shooting fundamentals in a live-fire range environment.

Expectations and Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Children’s and Family Handgun Range Session, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the fundamental rules of firearm safety during a supervised live-fire session.
- Demonstrate proper range behavior and etiquette, including following instructor commands and maintaining awareness of the firing line.
- Demonstrate the seven fundamental shooting principles introduced during the previous courses.
- Demonstrate proper shooting stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, breathing, and follow-through.
- Safely handle an approved handgun under direct instructor supervision.
- Demonstrate appropriate trigger-finger discipline and maintain safe muzzle awareness.
- Safely load, fire, and unload the firearm when directed by the instructor.
- Maintain appropriate control of the firearm throughout the shooting exercises.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to instructor commands and changing range conditions.
- Apply previously learned firearm safety and familiarization knowledge to a live-fire environment.
- Demonstrate responsible behavior and communication with the instructor and accompanying parent or legal guardian.
- Complete the 50-round introductory shooting series while maintaining safe firearm-handling practices.
The goal of this session is to provide students with a safe, structured introduction to supervised live-fire shooting, allowing them to apply the knowledge and fundamentals developed throughout the Children’s and Family training series while continuing to build confidence, safety awareness, and responsible firearm-handling habits.

Documentation Requirements
Parent/Legal Guardian Requirement
For the Children’s and Family AR Rifle Range Session, Frogbones requires the accompanying adult to be the student’s parent or legal guardian.
The accompanying adult must be:
- The student’s biological or adoptive parent, or
- The student’s court-appointed legal guardian or legal custodian.
Siblings, grandparents, other relatives, family friends, babysitters, or other adults may not serve as the required chaperone unless they are the student’s legally recognized guardian or legal custodian.
If the accompanying adult is acting as the student’s legal guardian or legal custodian, official documentation establishing that legal relationship must be presented before the student will be permitted onto the range.
Documentation Requirement
The required documentation must clearly establish the adult’s legal authority to act as the student’s guardian or legal custodian. If the required documentation cannot be provided when requested, the adult will not be permitted to serve as the student’s chaperone and the student will not be permitted to participate in the range session.
Requirements
- Minimum Age: Students must be 10 years of age or older to participate.
- Series Completion Required: Students must successfully complete all required Children’s and Family courses before participating in the live-fire range session:
- Children’s and Family Firearm Safety Basics
- Children’s and Family AR Rifle Familiarization
- Children’s and Family Dry Fire & Situational Awareness
- Prerequisite Verification: Completion of all required courses must be verified before the student is approved for enrollment in the Children’s and Family Handgun Range Session. No exceptions.
- Required Parent/Guardian/Chaperone: Every student must be accompanied by one parent, legal guardian, or designated adult chaperone for the entire range session.
- 1-to-1 Ratio — No Exceptions: The required ratio is 1 student to 1 adult chaperone. One adult may not supervise, accompany, or be responsible for more than one student.
- Chaperone Fee: The required parent, guardian, or chaperone attends free of charge. Only the student is charged for the course.
- Ammunition: Ammunition is not included in the course price. Students are responsible for providing or purchasing the ammunition required for the 50-round session.
- Firearms: Students may use an approved training firearm provided by Frogbones, subject to availability and instructor approval. Students may also use an approved personal firearm if permitted by the instructor and range policies.
- Safety Equipment: Targets and eye and ear protection are included in the course price and will be provided as needed.
- Instructor Approval: Participation in the live-fire session is subject to instructor approval. Students must demonstrate the required safety knowledge and appropriate behavior before and throughout the range session.
Important: This is a live-fire course and represents the final range component of the Children’s and Family training series. All prerequisite courses and the required 1-to-1 adult-to-student ratio must be satisfied before participation.
