Description
An 8-hour concealed weapons training course required by Michigan Public Act 381.
Topics Covered
This course consists of 5 hours of classroom instruction in:
- Civil and criminal liability
- When deadly force is legally justified
- How to avoid and de-escalate dangerous situations
- Safe firearm storage and child safety
- Handgun operation and safety rules
- Shooting fundamentals explained in simple, practical terms
Expectations and Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students should have a better understanding of firearm safety, basic handgun operation, defensive shooting fundamentals, personal protection principles, and Michigan CPL law — including the justified use of deadly force and safe range procedures. A certificate of training will also be awarded upon the successful completion of the course. This will allow you to apply for / renew your Concealed Pistol License (CPL) in the state of Michigan.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.
Requirements
Your cost covers instruction, the course packet, and range rental.
Gear & Equipment
- Firearm: For the shooting portion, handguns are available for rent at the range. You may also bring your own or use the one that the instructor provides. If bringing your own, it must be unloaded and in a case.
- Per the Range's policy, no firearms will be allowed in the classroom; there will be a place to store your firearm and ammunition if you choose to bring your own.
- Ammunition: Students must bring at least 50 rounds of ammunition.
- Protection: Eye and ear protection will be provided at the range, but feel free to bring your own if preferred.
For your comfort and safety, please follow these clothing guidelines:
- Closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops)
- High-neck shirts (to prevent hot brass from falling inside clothing)
- A hat with a brim (like a baseball cap) is highly recommended
We reserve the right to remove any individual from the range or classroom for safety violations, without a refund.
