Description
A focused two-day, immersive carbine course that builds usable, fight-ready rifle skills for students who already understand basic marksmanship. This class emphasizes realistic rifle positions (roll-outs, supine, flat prone, strong-side prone), transition drills to pistol, multiple-target sequencing, and shooting on the move with deliberate obstacle work. Training stresses using cover and concealment correctly, controlling cant and sight-plane issues, and applying skills at realistic engagement distances (near to 100 yards). The curriculum draws on classic patrol rifle techniques and combat field firing positions to ensure skills transfer to real incidents.
Topics Covered
- Zero confirmation and ballistic considerations for canted firing positions (effects of cant on strike).
- Expedient field firing positions: roll-outs, supine position, strong-side prone, flat prone (technique, advantages, limitations).
- Realistic Rifle Training
- Use of cover vs. concealment; slicing the pie and minimizing weapon exposure.
- Transition drills: when and how to immediately transition to a pistol (practice protocol and reload sequence).
- Multiple-target engagement sequencing and presentation.
- Movement and shooting: forward/back/side movement basics and movement patterns (square, diamond, figure-8) with and without obstacles.
- Magazine change, malfunction remediation during movement and transitions.
- Preventive maintenance and immediate-action cleaning basics for sustained operations.
Expectations and Outcomes
Students should come prepared for a demanding, performance-based course. Expect a fast-paced environment where precision and control are emphasized over speed alone. Each drill is designed to test and refine real-world carbine handling—balancing marksmanship, movement, and decision-making under time pressure.
By the end of this course, students will:
- Demonstrate smooth, efficient transitions between carbine and pistol at distances of 25 yards and in.
- Engage multiple targets with speed and accuracy using proper visual indexing and recoil control.
- Move safely and effectively while maintaining acceptable hits and muzzle awareness.
- Understand how to work around obstacles and cover while minimizing exposure.
- Apply positional shooting techniques—such as roll-outs, supine, and strong-side prone—with confidence and purpose.
- Perform preventive maintenance and sustain weapon reliability through consistent lubrication and inspection.
- Leave with individual performance standards and a structured plan for continued development after class.
Students who complete the course will have measurable data on time, accuracy, and weapon manipulation skills, forming a personal baseline for ongoing progress in advanced training environments.
