Description
This course is at least 14 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
Topics Covered
- Rifle Knowledge & Safe Handling: Understanding rifle parts (actions, stocks, sights), operation of various rifle types (bolt, lever, pump, semi-automatic), and cleaning/maintenance.
- Gun Safety Rules: Strict adherence to the NRA's three primary safety rules, safe storage, and handling protocols.
- Ammunition Knowledge: Components of a cartridge, how it functions, and proper ammunition selection.
- Shooting Fundamentals: Proper technique for aiming (sight alignment/picture), breath control, trigger control, and follow-through.
- Range Safety & Procedures: Understanding range commands, safety rules, and, for many, completing a, marksmanship qualification course of fire.
- Shooting Positions: Instruction on firing from various positions, including benchrest, prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing.
- Selection & Maintenance: Guidelines for selecting a rifle, cleaning, and ongoing skill development, such as through the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program.
- Classroom & Range Time: The course is divided between classroom instruction and live-fire, generally lasting around 14 hours for the full course.
- Examination: Students complete a, written exam to demonstrate knowledge of the material.
- Certification: Upon successful completion, students receive an NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course certificate.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.
Requirements
NRA Rifle Student & Instructor Range Qualification using .22LR Cal Carbine, 9MM PCC, .223 Cal MSR- AR-15 Type Rifles and bolt action Target Grade Rifles. Students are also welcome to bring and use their owned rifles and ammunition.
? Need guns, and gear ?? - WE CAN SUPPLY - with advance notice! Ammo can be provided to students at our cost: .22LR @ ? per round ie per 100 rds., 9MM @ per round ie per 100 rds. ($54.00 for 100 rds total).
Students are encouraged to bring "OWNED Rifles" to the classroom for demonstration, instruction and drill purposes.
!! NO LIVE AMMO IN THE CLASSROOM !! All firearms are to be cased, and presented for "show clear" (including ALL magazines), and - when invited to do so - remove same from cases.
