No. The NRA Basic Pistol Course teaches safe handgun handling, marksmanship, and responsible firearm ownership. It is a firearms education course and is not intended to satisfy Colorado's concealed handgun permit training requirement.

Yes. Students receive supervised live-fire instruction at the range where they practice the skills learned in the classroom under the guidance of experienced NRA Certified Instructors.

No. If you do not own a handgun, rental firearms may be available for select classes. Contact us before your class to reserve one if needed.

Most modern semi-automatic pistols and revolvers in common calibers are acceptable. If you have questions about your firearm, contact us before class and we'll be happy to help.

Unless otherwise noted in the course listing, students should bring approximately 100 rounds of factory ammunition that matches their firearm.

Yes. Students who do not own a handgun may rent one for the course. Rental options include a Taurus .22 LR pistol or a Glock 9mm pistol, and each rental includes 150 rounds of ammunition for use during training. Rental firearms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend reserving one when registering for your class

Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather, closed-toe shoes, and avoid low-cut shirts or loose-fitting clothing while participating in live-fire training.

Yes. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an official NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate of Completion.

Yes. US Firearms Training Academy offers NRA Basic Pistol Courses at multiple locations throughout Colorado, including the Denver metro area, Thornton, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and other Front Range communities.

Absolutely. Many students take this course before purchasing a firearm to better understand handgun safety, operation, and the different types of pistols available.

Many students continue their training by taking a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) class, defensive pistol courses, or additional NRA firearm training programs to further develop their skills and confidence.
