Description

The CA – Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) class is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the California Department of Justice (DOJ) Firearm Safety Certificate exam. This exam is required for individuals who wish to purchase or acquire firearms in California, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

The class covers the fundamentals of firearm safety, including safe handling, storage, and transportation of firearms. Students will learn about the various types of firearms and their components, as well as the laws and regulations surrounding firearm ownership and use in California.

Throughout the course, students will engage in classroom instruction, as well as hands-on exercises with inert firearms, to demonstrate their understanding of firearm safety principles. The class concludes with a comprehensive review of the material covered, followed by the opportunity for students to take the DOJ Firearm Safety Certificate exam.

The CA – Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) class is taught by certified instructors with extensive experience in firearms safety and education. Students who successfully complete the class and pass the exam will receive a CA DOJ Firearm Safety Certificate, which is valid for five years.

Whether you are a first-time firearm owner or a seasoned enthusiast, the CA – Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) class provides essential knowledge and skills to ensure the safe and responsible use of firearms in California.

  • A new Firearm Safety Certificate costs $25; $15 for the certificate and $10 to take the test.
  • A replacement certificate is $5 (31650). You pay regardless of a pass or fail.

Expectations and Outcomes: By the end of the CA - Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) class, students can expect to accomplish the following:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of firearm safety: Students will gain a thorough understanding of firearm safety rules, including safe handling, storage, and transportation of firearms. They will be familiar with the six basic gun safety rules and additional safety points to ensure responsible firearm ownership.

  2. Understanding of firearm operation and safe handling: Students will learn about the different types of firearms, their components, and safe handling procedures. They will gain knowledge of revolver and semiautomatic pistol parts and operation, ammunition components, firearm calibers, and how to handle long guns safely.

  3. Familiarity with firearm ownership responsibilities: Students will understand the responsibilities that come with firearm ownership. They will learn about the importance of reading instructional material, enrolling in firearm training courses, firearm cleaning and repair, as well as safety and storage devices. The class emphasizes childproofing methods and instilling a safety mindset.

  4. Knowledge of firearms laws and regulations: Students will receive instruction on various firearms laws and regulations in California. Topics covered include sales and transfers of firearms, carrying a concealed weapon, the use of lethal force in self-defense, restrictions on loaded firearms in public, large-capacity magazines, and prohibited acts.

Certification: Students who successfully complete the class and pass the California Department of Justice (DOJ) Firearm Safety Certificate exam will receive a CA DOJ Firearm Safety Certificate. This certificate is valid for five years and is required for individuals who wish to purchase or acquire firearms in California.

Important Note: The CA - Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) class does not involve live-fire shooting. The focus of the class is on firearm safety, responsible ownership, and knowledge of laws and regulations. Students should be aware of local and state laws regarding firearm ownership and usage in addition to the material covered in the class.
