Description
The live-fire qualification doesn't have to be the most stressful part of getting your CWP. If you haven't shot in awhile, or you're a brand-new shooter, this hands-on, one-hour workshop gives a safe, guided introduction to handguns at the range — with an instructor beside you every step of the way. Walk in uncertain. Walk out ready.
Topics Covered
Safety
- The four universal rules of firearm safety
- Safe direction and muzzle awareness at all times
- Trigger discipline — keeping the finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
- Safe handling when receiving or passing a firearm
Firearm Familiarity
- Identifying the parts of a handgun
- How to verify a firearm is unloaded (press check / cylinder check)
- Loading and unloading under instructor supervision
Range Procedures
- Range commands and what they mean (cease fire, make safe, etc.)
- Proper movement and behavior on the firing line
- How to safely stage a firearm at the range
Shooting Fundamentals
- Grip — establishing a proper two-handed grip
- Stance — isosceles and Weaver basics
- Sight alignment and sight picture
- Trigger press — smooth, deliberate, without disturbing the sight picture
- Follow-through and reset
- Breathing and managing anticipation (flinch correction)
Live-Fire Practice
- Dry fire exercises before going live
- Supervised live-fire strings at close range (3–5 yards)
- Immediate feedback and coaching from the instructor
- Building the repetitions needed to feel comfortable on qualification day
Expectations and Outcomes
The goal of this workshop is to give students the confidence they need to safely and effectively handle and shoot a handgun.

Requirements
Student is responsible for bringing a handgun and ammunition (at least 50 rounds), eye and ear protection and is responsible for the range fee.
(Pistols, ammo, eye and ear protection are available for rent)
If there are less than 3 registered students, the class may be rescheduled, at the discretion of the instructor.
