Description
Tactical Pistol I is designed for students who already understand basic handgun safety and want to move beyond slow, stationary target shooting. This course focuses on building the practical skills needed for responsible concealed carry and defensive pistol training.
Students will work on improving stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, recoil management, accuracy, and consistency. The course also introduces or refines drawing from concealment, developing a smoother presentation, getting on target efficiently, and making accurate hits under time pressure.
The goal of Tactical Pistol I is not just to shoot faster. The goal is to become safer, more efficient, more accurate, and more confident with the handgun you carry or intend to carry. Students should leave with a better understanding of their current skill level, the mistakes that may be slowing them down, and what they need to practice next.
This course is a strong next step for concealed carriers, private pistol students, and shooters who want to begin developing real defensive pistol skills before moving into more advanced scenario-based training.
Topics Covered
Topics covered include firearm safety, safe gun handling, stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, recoil management, accuracy improvement, follow-through, target acquisition, drawing from concealment, presentation to the target, working from a holster, use of a cover garment, and making accurate hits under time pressure.
Students will also work on identifying and correcting common shooting errors that affect speed, accuracy, consistency, and confidence.
Expectations and Outcomes
Students should expect a practical, skill-building defensive pistol class focused on improving safety, accuracy, efficiency, and confidence with a handgun. This class is not designed for brand-new shooters. Students should already understand basic firearm safety and be able to handle their pistol safely before attending.
By the end of class, students should have a stronger understanding of their current shooting ability, the mistakes that may be limiting their accuracy or speed, and the specific skills they need to continue practicing. Outcomes may include better grip, improved trigger control, faster target acquisition, smoother draw from concealment, more consistent hits, and greater confidence handling a pistol under time pressure.
This course is intended to prepare students for more advanced defensive pistol and scenario-based training. Skill improvement will depend on the student’s starting ability, equipment, attitude, and willingness to practice after class.
