About CCW Instructor, LLC DBA CCW Training Academy
Alan B. Densky is the founder and lead instructor of CCW Training Academy, serving students in North Central Florida, including Lake, Sumter, and Marion Counties. His training focuses on safe, responsible, practical firearms instruction for ordinary people who want to become more confident, more capable, and better prepared to protect themselves and their families.
Alan is a former deputy sheriff and an NRA Certified Instructor. His certifications include NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, NRA Home Firearms Safety Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer, Nationwide Concealed Carry Instructor, and IDPA Safety Officer. His law enforcement background, firearms training experience, and years of teaching allow him to work with both brand-new shooters and experienced firearm owners who want to improve their real-world defensive skills.
Alan began learning firearms safety and marksmanship as a young teenager under the guidance of his father, a U.S. Army Gunnery Sergeant. That early training emphasized discipline, safety, responsibility, and repetition. Those principles still guide his teaching today. Alan believes students learn best when training is structured, patient, practical, and focused on steady improvement rather than intimidation or pressure.
As a former Deputy Sheriff, Alan developed a deep appreciation for the difference between simply owning a firearm and being prepared to use one responsibly under stress. During his law enforcement career, he maintained a high level of firearms proficiency and trained extensively. His experience helped shape the way he teaches today: keep the skills simple, build strong fundamentals, and train in a way that prepares the student for the kind of problems they may actually face.
CCW Training Academy offers concealed carry training, private pistol instruction, beginner handgun lessons, defensive pistol training, live-fire range training, women-only beginner pistol classes, and in-home firearms training using safe recoil-enabled training pistols and computerized laser target systems. Alan also teaches scenario-based self-defense concepts, including situational awareness, threat recognition, drawing from concealment, defensive movement, decision-making under stress, and home defense planning.
One of Alan’s major areas of emphasis is the gap between basic permit training and real defensive readiness. A concealed carry class can help a student meet Florida training requirements and better understand legal and safety responsibilities, but it is not the same thing as learning how to defend yourself under pressure. Alan encourages students to continue beyond minimum requirements by developing safe gun handling, accuracy, judgment, and practical defensive skills.
Alan’s teaching style is calm, patient, and direct. New students are never rushed, embarrassed, or treated as though they should already know what they are doing. Safety always comes first. Students are taught how to handle firearms responsibly, how to build confidence through repetition, and how to correct common problems such as poor grip, anticipation, trigger control issues, sight alignment problems, and lack of follow-through.
For students who already have experience, Alan offers more advanced defensive pistol instruction. This may include faster target acquisition, drawing from concealment, close-range defensive concepts, shooting from retention, movement, use of cover, scenario-based problem solving, and understanding when a firearm may or may not be the proper defensive response. His goal is not to make training complicated. His goal is to help students develop practical skills that can hold up under stress.
Alan also offers in-home training for students who want to improve their safety, confidence, and home defense planning in the environment where they are most likely to need those skills. In-home training can include safe gun handling, family safety planning, movement around the home, hallway and doorway considerations, low-light concerns, safe storage discussions, and scenario-based home defense exercises. This type of training is especially helpful for new gun owners, older adults, women who prefer private instruction, couples, and families who want practical safety training in a comfortable setting.
Before focusing on firearms instruction, Alan spent many years working with people in behavioral training and stress-response related fields. That background gives him a practical understanding of how fear, adrenaline, hesitation, and confusion affect performance during a crisis. He brings that perspective into his firearms classes by helping students understand that defensive readiness is not only about marksmanship. It is also about awareness, decision-making, emotional control, and avoiding unnecessary danger whenever possible.
Alan’s training philosophy is simple: a firearm is a serious responsibility, and defensive training should be built around safety, judgment, and real-world practicality. Students are taught that the best outcome is avoiding danger whenever possible. When avoidance is not possible, the student needs safe gun handling, clear thinking, lawful decision-making, and skills that have been practiced enough to be useful under pressure.
CCW Training Academy is a good fit for students who want more than a rushed class or a certificate. Alan works with people who want to understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how to improve in a safe and responsible way. Whether the student is preparing for a Florida concealed carry permit, learning to shoot for the first time, improving defensive pistol skills, or developing a home defense plan, Alan’s goal is to provide practical instruction that builds confidence, competence, and responsibility.
Training is available through private instruction, group classes, in-home lessons, and live-fire range sessions. Students may begin at their current skill level and progress at a pace that makes sense for them. Alan’s mission is to help responsible gun owners become safer, better prepared, and more confident in their ability to make sound decisions before, during, and after a defensive emergency.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need prior firearms experience?
A: No. Many students begin with little or no firearms experience. Training is adjusted to your current skill level, and beginners are taught in a calm, step-by-step manner.
Q: Do I need to own a firearm?
A: For some beginner lessons, you may not need to own a firearm. For concealed carry, defensive pistol, or draw-from-concealment training, generally you should bring the firearm you intend to use. If you are unsure, contact CCW Training Academy before class.
Q: What should I bring to class?
A: Bring the items listed in the course description. Depending on the class, this may include your firearm, holster, sturdy gun belt, cover garment, extra magazines, eye and ear protection, snap caps, and ammunition.
Q: How much ammunition do I need?
A: Ammunition requirements vary by class. The required or recommended round count will be listed in the course description or provided before class.
Q: Are there holster restrictions?
A: Yes. For safety reasons, holsters must be safe, secure, and appropriate for the course. Holsters with push-button releases, cross-draw holsters, and shoulder holsters are generally not allowed for draw-from-concealment training.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear comfortable clothing suitable for range training. Closed-toe shoes or sneakers are required. Avoid low-cut shirts, tank tops, or clothing that can catch hot brass. A brimmed hat is recommended for live-fire range training.
Q: Where are classes held?
A: Classes may be held at different training locations, including ARES Training Facility, Ocala Sportsman’s Association Range, private in-home locations, or other approved training locations. The exact location will be listed in the class details and confirmation email.
Q: Will I need to complete a range waiver?
A: Some ranges require their own waiver, safety video, check-in procedure, or range fee. If required, students should complete those steps before class whenever possible.
Q: Will this class qualify me for a Florida concealed carry permit?
A: Only classes specifically listed as Florida concealed carry permit / CWL classes are intended to provide the required training certificate. Other classes, such as defensive pistol, private coaching, home defense, or scenario-based training, may teach valuable firearm skills but may not include the specific lecture material required for the Florida concealed weapon or firearm license training certificate. If you are unsure whether a class qualifies, please contact the instructor before registering.
Q: Do you provide legal advice?
A: No. Firearms laws and self-defense laws may be discussed for educational purposes only. Alan B. Densky is not an attorney and does not provide legal advice.
Q: What is the difference between a permit class and defensive pistol training?
A: A permit class is designed to help satisfy basic training requirements and introduce firearm safety, legal responsibilities, and other required lecture material. Defensive pistol training goes much further into practical shooting and defensive skills, such as drawing from concealment, movement, close-range problems, situational awareness, and scenario-based decision-making. However, defensive pistol training does not necessarily include the required lecture material for a Florida CWL certificate unless the class is specifically listed as a permit class.
Q: Do you offer private lessons?
A: Yes. Private lessons are available for every class listed on our schedule. Private training can be customized to the student’s current skill level, goals, and training needs.
Q: Do you offer in-home training?
A: Yes. In-home training may be available depending on location and course type. In-home training can include safe firearm handling, home-defense planning, dry-fire practice, recoil-enabled training pistols, laser target systems, and scenario-based home-defense exercises.
Q: What if I am nervous or brand new?
A: That is completely normal. Students are not rushed, embarrassed, or expected to already know what they are doing. Safety, confidence, and steady improvement are the goals.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Class fees are non-refundable. Students may reschedule for the same course or apply their payment as credit toward another CCW Training Academy course if they cancel at least 48 hours in advance. Training credit must be used within one year of the original scheduled class date. No refunds or credits are issued for no-shows.
Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
A: If weather, range conditions, instructor illness, or another unavoidable issue makes it necessary to reschedule a class, students will be contacted as soon as possible. If you do not receive a notice before class, you should assume the class is still scheduled.
Q: Can I be removed from class for safety reasons?
A: Yes. Any student who fails to follow safety rules, instructor directions, or range rules may be removed from training without refund or credit.

Alan provided immediate feedback on the shooting results, and I feel very confident . . . I will no doubt be working with Alan further in the future. Alan knows pretty much everything there is to know about dry-fire / in-home computer aided etc. shooting / training practice so if you are interested in that he can be a valuable assist there as well.
