Description

Course fee includes 1 hour of instructor time plus $30 range fee. 
(To save on range fees, contact the instructor for a 2 hour version of this class.)
Contact the instructor to schedule private or semi-private lesson if current scheduled classes are not convenient.
A certified USCCA Instructor prepares you for and administers the prescribed stages of range drills for either Level 1 or Level 2 of USCCA Protector academy.
There will be no instruction or coaching during the qualification stages, but the student may request instruction either before or after performing the stages as part of the hour of instructor time.

Level 1 qualification stages are untimed.
Level 2 qualification stages are timed. The instructor provides a range timer.

Level 1 Stages summarized:
USCCA Silhouette Target w 9” circle.
Stage 1: Put your target 3 yards away from you on the range. Fire 10 rounds at the 9-inch center circle.
Stage 2: Move your target until it is 5 yards away from you. Fire 10 rounds at the 9-inch center circle.
Stage 3: Move your target until it is 7 yards away from you. Fire 10 rounds at the 9-inch center circle.
Stage 4: Move your target until it is 10 yards away from you. Fire 10 rounds at the 9-inch center circle.
Stage 5: Move your target until it is 15 yards away from you. Fire 10 rounds at the 9-inch center circle.

Assessment: If you successfully placed 70% of your shots (35 or more) inside the 9-inch center target, you have completed your Level 01 USCCA Qualification. (“Inside” does not include breaking the ring; shots must fully be inside the ring to count.)

Level 2 Stages summarized:
USCCA Silhouette Target w 9” circle , 30 rounds scored. 4 yards.
Shoot each part once untimed to warm up, then twice timed for qualification.

Part 1: load and fire. Par time 6 secs.
Unloaded gun and 3-rd mag on bench.
On beep pick up gun, secure proper grip, barrel downrange, high compressed ready.
Insert mag, chamber a round, extend and fire all 3 rounds at the 9-inch center.
Clear firearm and return to table.

Part 2: load, fire, reload, fire. Par time 12 secs.
Unloaded gun and one 3-rd mags on bench, 2nd 3-rd mag on bench or mag pouch.
(if allowed start w back to target)
On beep, turn, pick up gun, grip at high compressed ready, load, rack slide, fire 3 rounds.
Reload, rack, fire 3.
Clear gun & return to bench.

Part 3: Reload w malfunctions. Par time 15 secs
Unloaded gun and one mag on bench, second mag on bench or mag pouch.
Each mag loaded w 3 live rounds & 1 snap cap in random position.
(if allowed start w back to target)
On beep,,turn, pick up gun, grip at high compressed ready, load, rack slide, fire 3 rounds. Reload, rack, fire 3.
Clear malfunctions (tap/rack) as they occur.
Clear gun & return to bench.

Passing: all 30 rounds completely inside the 9” circle (no line breaks), in under par time for each of the six stages.

Topics Covered

Following completion of all stages of fire the instructor and student will review topics relevant to improving the student's performance in future sesssions, and suggestions for further practice in both dry fire and live fire.

Expectations and Outcomes

Upon successful scoring of all stages of fire the student will receive a certificate indicating successful completion of the range requirements for USCCA Level 1 or Level 2, as well as photographs of the target with date and signatures. The student has the option to retain the target as evidence of the accomplishment.

Documentation Requirements

Drivers License, state- or federal-issued photo ID, Resident Aien green card, or U.S. passport.

Completion evidence for the online courses of USCCA Protector Academy Qualifications:
Level 01
     Handgun Safety and Marksmanship Fundamentals
     Children’s Firearms & Safety Fundamentals: How to Teach Kids About Firearms
Level 02     
     Defensive Shooting Concepts
     Emergency First-Aid Fundamentals

Completion certificates indicating two hours (for Level 1) or four hours (for Level 2) of in-person range training by a certified instructor. This training does not need to be from DCS Trains, nor from a single instructor.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.

Requirements

Student must provide handgun and ammunition.

  • Handguns can be personally owned or rented from the range.
  • Ammunition must be new factory ammunition in original box; reloaded ammunition is not allowed.
    • Recommend bringing 100 rounds of ammunition
    • Level 2 bring 5 snap caps (dummy rounds) in your gun's caliber.
  • Students must bring all guns in a closed bag or case. Hand carry of open, loose guns is strictly forbidden.
The student may provide USCCA silhouette targets with 9" center, or the instructor can provide IDPA practice targests (with 8" circle) with center adjusted to 9".

For lessons at Arkansas Armory - USCCA Partner Range 
  1. Complete and sign the online Arkansas Armory Range Waiver prior to going to the range.
  2. Students must complete their safety training video and sign their waiver form (#1).
  3. Arkansas Armory has an extensive set of handguns available to rent, and appropriate ammunition for use with them. You may use only ammunition purchased from them in rental guns.
  4. Your fee to DCS Trains includes your range use fee. 


Students must
  • be at least 18 years old, or accompanied by an adult parent or legal guardian
  • be a U.S. citizen or Resident Alien (green card holder),**
  • not be a prohibited firearm possessor under Federal or state law.**

* A parent or guardian may accompany no more than one minor student. 

** These are legal requirements and not negotiable.

Note: if you currently have a medical marijuana card, or have had an active card within the past 12 months, you are considered a prohibited firearm possesssor under Federal law, and are not eligible to take this class.
This is the same basis under which the Arkansas State Police deny Concealed Hangun Carry Licenses (CHCL) to current and recent medical marijuana card holders.
