Description

This is the Texas DPS approved course that will satisfy the 4-6 classroom hours required by the state to obtain a License To Carry. Following the course there will be a Written Exam & a Range Proficiency exam that students will be required to complete both with a passing score.

At completion of the course, testing and handgun qualifications, you will be issued the state-required LICENSE TO CARRY A HANDGUN CERTIFICATE OF TRAINING (FORM LTC-100) for application to the state.

Students who cannot meet these standards will fail the proficiency test and will need to retest at a later date. Prospective students who have little handgun experience are encouraged to visit the range prior to class and take a 20 Minute Training Class or schedule an Introduction to Handguns 2-1/2 hour personal instruction class.

  • Firearm* – The range qualification requires a handgun of .22 caliber or higher
  • 50 rounds of ammo*

The class is presented by an entertaining Power Point and open discussion format. Instructors bring experience to make your class enjoyable and educational.

WHAT’S COVERED IN THE LECTURE:

  • Laws that relate to weapons & the use of deadly force
  • Handgun use & safety, including use of restraint holsters & methods to ensure the secure carrying of openly carried handguns
  • Non-violent dispute resolution.
  • Proper storage practices for handguns with an emphasis on storage practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child.

Expectations and Outcomes

Once the student has successfully completed the course both written examination and the Texas DPS shooting qualification the student will receive a completion form at the end of class from Instructor to turn into the state to start the application process to receive their Texas LTC License.

Requirements

Please bring eyes and ear protection. If this is your first time and not sure what to get just let me know. We can go over different types and so forth for you.  We can provide some for the training day for you to try. It is also recommended you have a baseball cap. You will need a Box of 50 quality of ammo and a pistol 22 caliber and nothing larger than 45 Caliber pistol.

The range fee is a separate fee depending on range location.
