Description
The NRA’s Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training (FIRST) program is designed to give new shotgun owners a solid foundation in safe handling and responsible ownership. This course combines classroom instruction with hands-on training to ensure every participant develops the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to operate a shotgun safely and effectively.
Topics Covered
“Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, gain familiarity with the parts and operation of their specific shotgun model, review ammunition basics, and practice essential shooting fundamentals. Instruction also covers shotgun cleaning, maintenance, and continued opportunities for skill development. On the range, students will complete live-fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification under the supervision of an NRA Certified Instructor.”
