Description

The NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun course is designed for new or inexperienced handgun owners who are looking for an introduction to safe pistol handling, operation, and basic marksmanship. The acronym FIRST stands for Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training.

 
Ideal Students:
 
First-time gun owners
 
Beginners with little or no formal firearms training
 
Individuals considering purchasing a handgun and wanting to learn fundamentals
 
Students who prefer a short, focused class rather than a full Basic Pistol course

This course is not intended for intermediate or advanced shooters. It's strictly a foundational training to introduce new pistol users to safe and responsible firearm use.

Topics Covered

Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular shotgun model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the shotgun; and continued opportunities for skill development.

Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor.
