Description
The NRA Defensive Pistol Course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence.

- Safe gun handling: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling
- Concealment: The basic principles of concealment and the difference between cover and concealment
- Drawing from a holster: How to draw from a holster using the NRA method
- Mental awareness: Developing the proper mindset for using a pistol for personal protection
- Stoppages: How to clear common stoppages
- Shooting fundamentals: The NRA's 5 Fundamentals of Rifle and Pistol Shooting: aiming, breath control, hold control, trigger control, and follow through
- Live-fire drills: Dry and live-fire drills
- Physiology: The physiology of a lethal force encounter
- Reloads: Tactical and emergency speed reload
Expectations and Outcomes
As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, use of pocket pistols, and more.

Requirements
Prerequisite: NRA Basic Pistol
Note: Pre-course assessment is required for student that hasn't completed the NRA Basic Pistol course or proof of experience if you didn't take the NRA Basic Pistol with us, but with another NRA instructor.
For participants to be successful in this course, they should have the following items.
- Quality Pistol appropriate for concealed carry
- recommend minimum of 9mm or .38 Special
- Quality Strong Side Hip Holster – recommend form
- fitted leather or kydex, must cover trigger/trigger guard
- Quality Belt, designed to carry a holster and a firearm
- strongly recommended
- Quality ammunition suitable for practice. Encourage students to have at least one hundred rounds.
- Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches – at least two spares.
- Clothing appropriate for concealed carry with baseball cap
- Eye protection
- Hearing protection - recommend electronic
