MDTTactics Training Group’s eight-hour Maryland Wear & Carry Renewal course is designed for current permit holders preparing to renew their Maryland permit. Through classroom instruction, hands-on review, and live-fire qualification, students refresh safe handgun handling, review applicable firearm laws and self-defense principles, and reinforce responsible carry practices.

Students who successfully complete the required instruction and live-fire qualification receive the training documentation needed for their Maryland Wear & Carry renewal application.

Topics Covered

• Firearm Safety and Storage: Safe handling, accident prevention, secure storage, and preventing unauthorized access.

• Handgun Operation: Review of handgun parts, operation, and safe loading and unloading procedures.

• Maryland and Federal Firearm Laws: Possession eligibility, prohibited persons, lawful purchases and transfers, straw purchases, and restrictions on firearms and accessories.

• Carry and Transportation Laws: Permit responsibilities, lawful transportation, prohibited locations, and armed trespass restrictions.

• Self-Defense and Use of Force: Legal principles governing self-defense, defense of others, and defense of property, including the limits on deadly force.

• Conflict De-escalation and Resolution: Recognizing escalating situations, avoiding confrontation, and resolving conflict safely.

• Anger Management: Maintaining emotional control and exercising sound judgment as an armed citizen.

• Suicide Prevention: Recognizing warning signs, reducing access to firearms during a crisis, and identifying support resources.

• Reporting and Legal Responsibilities: Reporting lost or stolen firearms and surrendering or transferring firearms when possession becomes prohibited.

• Shooting Fundamentals Review: Grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control.

• Live-Fire Qualification: Demonstration of safe handgun handling and shooting proficiency through the required qualification course.

Expectations and Outcomes

Completion Requirement: Students must complete all eight hours of training, demonstrate and pass safe firearm handling, pass the required live-fire qualification. Course completion does not automatically renew a permit; approval is determined by the Maryland State Police.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.

The instructor requires a copy of your Concealed Carry Weapons permit once you register.

Requirements

For participants to be successful in this course, they should have the following items.

• Quality Pistol – recommend minimum of 9mm or .38 Special
• Quality ammunition suitable for practice (50 rounds FMJ) and qualification (50 rounds JHP)
• Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches – at least two additional (3 total)
• Clothing appropriate for concealed carry
• Eye protection
• Hearing protection
