Expectations

1. Refresher on DC Firearm Laws

Participants are expected to:

• Review updated District of Columbia laws on carrying a concealed firearm.
• Understand legal limitations on use of force and deadly force.
• Be aware of any new regulations affecting permit holders since their last certification.

2. Demonstrate Continued Firearm Safety

Participants must:

• Show proper firearm handling techniques.
• Maintain safe practices for storage, transport, and concealed carry.
• Understand how to avoid negligent discharges and accidents.

3. Pass a Live-Fire Qualification

Participants are expected to:

• Meet MPD qualification standards (typically 70% hit rate on target at various distances).
• Show proficiency with safe loading, unloading, and firing.
• Use their own firearm and follow range safety protocols.

4. Complete the Required Coursework

The renewal course includes:

• 4 hours of classroom/online training
• 2 hours of range qualification

Participants must attend the full training and successfully complete both components.
