Topics Covered

0–5 min — Admin & safety (5 min)

Confirm agency qualification standard (distances, strings, times, scoring).

Safety brief, gear check, targets set at required distances. Student states their current qual score and target score.

5–12 min — Dry-fire / draw rehearsal (7 min)

From duty holster: smooth, consistent draw, index trigger, present to sights, reset.

8–10 repetitions emphasizing retention in holster and efficient movement into firing stance. Coach corrects grip, slack clearance, and presentation line.

12–28 min — Qualification string simulation 1 (16 min)

Run the most common timed string for the agency (e.g., 5 rounds at 7 yds in X sec — substitute your agency time). If unknown, use progressive build:

String A: 5 rounds at 7 yds, controlled/accurate (no strict time) — focus on hits. (~25 rounds total)

String B: same distance with agency time pressure — 3 runs. Track times and hits.

Coach records hits, time, and key errors.

28–40 min — Malfunction + Emergency Reloads (12 min)

Drill: Simulate failure-to-fire (use dummy rounds) and immediate action (tap, rack, assess) from retention/low-ready; transition to emergency/tactical reload.

6–8 repetitions of each (combined live-fire and drill with dummy rounds). Emphasize minimal muzzle movement and immediate return to shooting baseline.

40–52 min — Timed movement & magazine change under stress (12 min)

Drill: Move 3–5 yards laterally, shoot 2–3 rounds, perform emergency reload, re-engage target with 2–3 rounds — replicate qualification movement or shoot-on-the-move elements.

4–6 runs. Coach times and notes muzzle discipline, reload speed, and re-acquisition.

52–58 min — Final qual-simulation run (6 min)

Run a full qualifying course-of-fire as close to agency standard as possible (distances, round counts, times). Use a scored target and treat it like the real test. Record score.

58–60 min — Debrief & practice plan (2 min)

Quick feedback: three corrections to work on and a homework plan (dry-fire repetitions, specific live drills, round counts). Coach recommends ideal follow-up (e.g., 2× short sessions before official qual, focus areas).

Expectations and Outcomes

Student Outcomes

By the end of the session, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate safe firearm handling while drawing, reholstering, reloading, and clearing malfunctions.

Engage targets accurately at qualification distances under time constraints.

Perform emergency and tactical reloads efficiently from a duty holster and duty belt.

Clear common malfunctions (failure to fire, stovepipe, double-feed) quickly and return to the fight.

Meet or exceed agency qualification standards, with measurable improvement in accuracy, speed, and consistency.

Apply stress-management techniques (breathing, grip control, sight recovery) during timed strings.

Student Expectations

Students should expect to:

Be coached in a professional, one-on-one environment with training tailored to their agency’s qualification requirements.

Receive real-time corrective feedback on shooting fundamentals, holster work, reloads, and decision-making.

Run live-fire drills that simulate actual qualification stages (timed strings, distance changes, multiple-round engagements).

Be evaluated on accuracy, speed, and weapon handling using standards that reflect real qualification courses of fire.

Leave the session with a personalized practice plan (dry-fire and live-fire drills) to maintain and improve skills before testing.

Train in a way that emphasizes both passing the qualification and real-world application for duty carry.
