Description

Live-fire objective: Conduct focused, one-on-one live-fire training that builds safe, repeatable handgun fundamentals, improves accuracy under realistic conditions, and prepares civilian and CCW holders to handle, present, and employ their handgun competently and lawfully.

Students would have the option to select either Option 1-3 for their range session. (See Topics)

Topics Covered

Option 1 — ~100 rounds (60 minutes) — focused fundamentals + tempo

Setup & admin (5 min)
Safety brief, fit holster/mag pouches, zeroed sights check (if needed).

1) Live-fire warm up — 10 rounds (5 min)

Drill: Controlled pairs from low ready.

Distance: 7 yds.

Strings: 5x2 rounds, slow & deliberate (no par time, focus on sight picture/trigger).

Purpose: settle in, baseline accuracy.

2) Precision groupings — 20 rounds (10 min)

Drill: 4x5 slow fire.

Distance: 10–15 yds (adjust to shooter level).

Cadence: 2–3 seconds between shots.

Purpose: reinforce sight alignment and trigger control; measure group size.

3) Draw & first-shot accuracy — 20 rounds (12 min)

Drill: 10x2 from holster.

Distance: 3–7 yds.

Start: Strong-side holster, hands at chest.

Par: 2.0–2.5s for first accurate shot (adjust slower for beginners).

Purpose: improve draw stroke and first-shot hits.

4) Timed double-taps / controlled pairs — 20 rounds (10 min)

Drill: 10x2 controlled pairs on 7 yds.

Par: 1.5–1.8s per pair.

Purpose: smooth recoil management and follow-through.

5) Target transitions & reloads — 20 rounds (12 min)

Drill: 5x4 — engage Target A (3 rds), transition to Target B (1–2 rds), perform a reload if time.

Distance: 5–10 yds.

Purpose: target acquisition, index, efficient reloads.

Debrief & practice plan (3 min)

---

Option 2 — ~125 rounds (60 minutes) — fundamentals + speed + movement

Setup & admin (5 min)

1) Dry + warm up live fire — 10 rounds (5 min)

Dry draw practice (1–2 min) then 5x2 slow fire at 7 yds.

2) Precision / trigger control — 25 rounds (12 min)

5x5 slow fire at 10 yds; deliberate shot process; note group sizes.

3) Draw & presentation + reload — 25 rounds (12 min)

10x2 from holster (first shot emphasis) + 5 magazine change reps (use dummy mags or on the clock).

Distances 3–7 yds.

4) Timed strings with movement — 30 rounds (15 min)

Drill A: 6x5 — start at 5 yds, engage then step to 7–10 yds and continue (mix of 3–5 rds). Time: 6–8s per string.

Purpose: manage breathing, stance change and target acquisition while moving.

5) Failure drill / emergency reload — 20 rounds (10 min)

Simulated stoppage: perform a tap-rack or slide lock reload under instructor supervision (use inert stoppage if available). If not simulating, do immediate reloads after 2 rounds on a head-sized target.

Purpose: safe immediate action and reload competency.

Debrief (3 min)

---

Option 3 — ~150 rounds (60 minutes) — aggressive mix: accuracy + speed + stress

Setup & admin (5 min)

1) Active warm up — 15 rounds (6 min)

3x5 slow/controlled at 7–10 yds, emphasize fundamentals.

2) Precision work — 25 rounds (10 min)

5x5 at 15 yds or until group meets shooter goal.

3) Draw & first-shot under time pressure — 30 rounds (12 min)

15x2 from holster. Par 2.0s for first accurate shot. Coach for smooth presentation.

4) Speed / transition strings — 40 rounds (18 min)

10x4 strings: engage Target A twice, transitional to Target B twice. Par: 4–6s per string depending on distance (5–12 yds).

Focus: sighted first shots and controlled follow-ups.

5) Mag changes & reload flow — 20 rounds (7 min)

4 magazine change reps interspersed with 3–4 rds on target between changes.

If time permits, add a final 5-round stress string: 5 rounds on a 4–6s par.

Expectations and Outcomes

Student expectations (during the session)

Arrive prepared: firearm cleaned & unloaded for inspection, at least the planned number of rounds, holster and at least 2 magazines, eye/ear protection, ID and CCW if applicable.

Attend the 3–5 minute safety brief and follow all range/instructor commands without exception.

Be honest about experience level, prior injuries, and any medications that affect focus or motor skills.

Maintain a safety-first attitude: muzzle discipline, finger off trigger until on target, positive control of the firearm at all times.

Be coachable: accept correction, attempt drills as instructed, and ask concise questions only when safe to do so.

Accept measurable feedback (shot grouping, times) and use it to improve—this is a skills-building session, not a pass/fail test.

Student outcomes (skills & measurable improvements)

By the end of a 60-minute, one-on-one live-fire session (100–150 rounds) the typical student will be able to:

Safety & range conduct

Demonstrate consistent muzzle and trigger discipline and follow standard range protocols without reminders.

Perform safe, instructor-approved immediate actions and basic reloads.

Fundamentals

Consistently present a correct grip, sight picture, and trigger press during slow-fire strings.

Show measurable improvement in group size or hit percentage from the warm-up baseline (instructor documents before/after).

Draw & first-shot

Execute a smooth, repeatable draw from holster and deliver an accurate first shot at typical defensive distances (3–7 yards).

Reduce draw-to-first-hit time and improve consistency (example target: noticeable reduction from baseline; exact target customized to student level).

Speed, recoil management & transitions

Deliver controlled follow-up shots (controlled pairs / double-taps) while maintaining sight picture and center-mass accuracy.

Perform basic target transitions between two targets with acceptable speed and accuracy for the student’s level.

Reload & malfunction flow

Complete a tactical or emergency reload efficiently and execute a basic immediate action for common malfunctions (tap-rack or slide release) under supervision.

Decision-making & practice

Explain a short, personalized practice plan (3–5 drills) to continue skill gains at home.

Recognize personal limits and identify 1–2 specific skill areas to focus on next session.

What success looks like (examples you can quantify)

Clean safety brief and zero reminders for muzzle/finger discipline.

Improved grouping or hit percentage from warm-up to precision drill (e.g., tighter groups at 7–10 yds).

Faster, repeatable draw with a clear first-shot hit on silhouette at 5 yards (time and hit recorded).

Successful completion of 3 magazine changes or 2 simulated malfunctions handled safely.

Deliverables the student receives

Instructor notes: baseline data (groups/times), coach feedback, and corrections.

Personalized 1-page practice plan with drills and rep targets.

Recommendations for gear, ammo, and next-step training.
