DC Concealed Pistol License (CPL) - Renewal

Description

MDTTactics Training Group’s DC CPL Renewal course is designed for current District of Columbia concealed pistol license holders preparing to renew their license. This six-hour course refreshes firearm safety, responsible, shooting fundamentals, and knowledge of applicable DC and federal firearm laws, including DC self-defense law.

Training includes four hours of classroom instruction and two hours of instructor-led range training with live-fire qualification. Students who successfully complete the course receive training documentation for their DC CPL renewal application.

Topics Covered

• Firearm Safety and Secure Storage: Safe handling, preventing access by minors, locking devices, and secure firearm storage.

• Handgun Parts and Operation: Review of pistol components, safe loading and unloading, cleaning, and maintenance.

• Shooting Fundamentals: Grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control.

• Situational Awareness and Conflict Management: Recognizing potential threats, avoiding confrontation, and making responsible decisions.

• DC Self-Defense and Deadly Force Law: Legal standards for self-defense and the limitations on using deadly force.

• DC and Federal Firearm Laws: Applicable possession, registration, transportation, and concealed carry requirements.

• License Holder Responsibilities: Prohibited carry locations, lawful concealment, and responsibilities during law enforcement encounters.

• Defensive Firearms and Ammunition: Considerations when selecting a handgun and ammunition for personal protection.

• Range Training and Qualification: Safe handgun handling, marksmanship practice, and completion of the required 50-round qualification course at distances up to 15 yards.

Expectations and Outcomes

Students must complete the classroom and range instruction, demonstrate and pass safe firearm handling practical, and achieve at least 70% accuracy on the live-fire qualification.

The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.

The instructor requires a copy of your Concealed Carry Weapons permit once you register.

Requirements

For participants to be successful in this course, they should have the following items personally owned.

• Quality Pistol – recommend minimum of 9mm or .38 Special
• Quality Strong Side Hip Holster
• Quality Belt, designed to carry a holster
• Quality ammunition suitable for practice (50 rounds of FMJ) & qualification (100 riunds of JHP)
• Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches – at least two additional (3 total)
• Clothing appropriate for concealed carry
• Eye protection
• Hearing protection
