Description
Build Confidence, Learn Safe Handgun Skills, and Prepare for Maryland HQL Licensing
This combined course provides a comprehensive introduction to safe handgun ownership while incorporating the training required for the Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL). Ideal for beginners, prospective handgun owners, and shooters seeking a structured refresher, the program combines self-paced NRA online learning with in-person classroom instruction and supervised range training.
Students complete the NRA eLearning portion before attending their classroom and range session. During in-person training, an NRA Certified Instructor and Maryland State Police Qualified Handgun Instructor reinforces safe handling, handgun operation, shooting fundamentals, and responsible firearm storage. Maryland-specific instruction covers firearm laws, purchase and transfer procedures, ownership restrictions, and an overview of lawful use of force.
Students demonstrate safe handgun handling, participate in live-fire practice, and complete the NRA examination and standardized shooting qualification. Successful completion earns an NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course completion certificate and documentation of completed Maryland HQL training.
