Description
Whether you’re brand new to the AR-15 or looking to refresh your fundamentals, this course offers a progressive, hands-on experience designed to take you from basic operation to confident handling. Following a “crawl, walk, run, sprint” approach, students will begin with safety and foundational knowledge, then gradually advance through skill-building exercises that focus on manipulation, reloading, and malfunction clearing.
This course is ideal for:
- New AR-15 owners looking to learn how to safely and confidently handle their rifle
- Beginner and intermediate shooters who want to build real skills through structured, step-by-step training
- Pistol shooters ready to expand into rifle work
- Defensive-minded individuals seeking to build a strong foundation before advancing to tactical or defensive carbine courses
- Anyone who owns an AR-15 but hasn’t yet trained with it in a guided, hands-on setting
- If you’ve ever said, “I own an AR-15 but don’t really know how to use it well,” this class is for you!!

- AR-15 platform overview and key components
- Firearm safety specific to rifles
- Proper stance and shoulder placement
- Loading, unloading, and press checks
- Understanding and adjusting sights/optics
- Basic zeroing concepts
- Recoil management and follow-through
- Emergency and tactical reloads
- Malfunction identification and clearing
- Shooting from standing, kneeling, and prone positions
- Movement with a rifle (introduction level)
- Introduction to transitions and target acquisition
- Progressive live-fire drills (crawl ? walk ? fun!)

Documentation Requirements
overnment-issued photo ID (Driver License, State ID, CCW/CHL, or passport)
The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.
Requirements
- Note taking materials
- AR-15 Firearm or Pistol Carbine (if needed, this may be rented from our host range)
- A sling, preferably a two-point version, which will serve as your carbine’s “holster” during training
- Minimum of 2 extra magazines (More mags are definitely better!! 😉)
- 200 rounds or more of proper factory ammunition for your rifle – NO RELOADS!! FYI, the more ammo you have, the more we will be able to shoot 😉. If needed, ammo may be purchased from our host range
- ELECTRONIC hearing protection - Students must be able to clearly hear and understand instructors/instructions during this training
- Eye Protection - Please note that prescription lenses are fine for range use
- Brimmed hat or ball cap
- A range bag
- Appropriate range clothing - No low-cut shirts or open-toed shoes, etc.
- Lunch (We will NOT take a break for lunch – We will have a working lunch), snacks, and hydration
- A willingness to be an attentive, safe, and diligent learner with a positive and receptive attitude!! 😊
