Have you ever been curious about shooting but didn't know where to begin?
First Shots® is a beginner friendly program designed specifically for individuals with little or no firearm experience. Whether you are considering purchasing your first firearm, recently purchased one and are unsure what to do next, or simply want to learn more in a safe and welcoming environment, this course is for you.
Students will receive an introduction to firearm safety, firearm operation, safe handling practices, range procedures, and basic shooting fundamentals before participating in a supervised live fire experience.
No prior experience is necessary. Our goal is to help you feel comfortable, confident, and safe while learning the fundamentals of responsible firearm ownership and the shooting sports.
Whether you are exploring firearms for the first time or ready to take the next step beyond classroom learning, this course provides a safe, supportive introduction to the shooting sports and additional training opportunities.
Topics Covered
- Understanding the importance of firearm safety and developing safe habits from the very beginning
- Learning the fundamental rules that help keep you and those around you safe
- Discovering how firearms work and becoming familiar with their basic parts and operation
- Building confidence through safe firearm handling, loading, and unloading procedures
- Understanding range safety rules, commands, and expectations
- Learning the fundamentals of proper stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control
- Developing the skills needed to place accurate, consistent hits on target
- Experiencing the shooting sports in a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment
- Exploring opportunities for continued training, skill development, and recreational shooting
Expectations and Outcomes
- Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of firearm safety, safe firearm handling practices, and the responsibilities that come with firearm ownership.
- Students will learn how to safely operate a firearm under instructor supervision while applying the fundamental skills necessary for accurate and consistent shooting.
- By the end of the course, students will be more comfortable navigating a shooting range, more confident in their ability to participate safely in the shooting sports, and better prepared to continue their firearms education and training journey.
- Whether your goal is recreational shooting, personal protection, or simply learning something new, this course will provide a strong foundation for future growth and development.
- Each student who successfully completes the course will receive a Certificate of Completion from Northpointe Training, LLC.

Documentation Requirements
Please bring a current, unexpired Ohio Driver License, Ohio Identification Card, or valid Concealed Handgun License (CHL) to class. This documentation is required for admission to the range.
The instructor requires a copy of your Government Issued ID once you register.
Requirements
- This course is designed for new shooters and beginners. No previous firearm experience is required.
- Participants must be legally eligible to possess and handle a firearm.
- Students under 18 years of age are welcome to attend when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the course.
- Please wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing suitable for the range.
- Adult participants should bring a government issued photo ID.
- This course includes both classroom instruction and a supervised live fire shooting experience.
- Don't own a firearm yet? No problem! Firearms, ammunition, eye protection, and ear protection will be available for student use.
- If you already own a firearm and safety equipment, you are welcome to bring them. For everyone's safety, all personally owned firearms must arrive unloaded, secured in a case, and remain cased during the classroom portion of the course.
- Most importantly, come prepared to learn, ask questions, and have fun. Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where you can build confidence and enjoy your first experience in the shooting sports!!
