Description
This course provides the training required to become an Unarmed Special police Officers. Each student must complete 40-hours approved pre-assignment, 16-hours on-the-job (from the company they are employed by) and 8- hours in-service training programs prescribed by the Mayor.
Topics Covered
Pre-assignment training shall include at least sixteen (16) hours of training on arrest powers, search and seizure laws, the District of Columbia Official Code, and the use of force. Pre-assignment training shall include an additional twenty-four (24) hours of training generally relating to the special police officer's duties and specifically including:
(a) Terrorism awareness, including building evacuation, unattended packages, and unknown substances;
(b) Emergency procedures, including evacuation and first-aid; and
(c) Customer service and interaction with tourists.
Expectations and Outcomes
Student will take a written exam to show competency of understnding of the lesson taught. With successful completion student will receive and certificate of completion of becoming an DC Unarmed Special Police Officer.

Documentation Requirements
Driver License to show proof of being at least 21 years of age or older.
Requirements
Student must be professionally dressed for training. Wearing a polo or collard shirts and khaki or black tactical pants and black shoes.
