Description

As a new firearm owner, it’s essential to receive proper training to ensure you can use, store, and transport your firearm safely, responsibly, and confidently. It’s equally important to begin learning the legal responsibilities that come with firearm ownership, especially when it comes to self-defense situations.

The NPT New Firearm Owner Academy Series provides a welcoming and accessible introduction to what it truly means to become your family’s first line of defense.

This training is thoughtfully structured into three, 2-hour sessions. The shorter class format helps new gun owners absorb and retain key information without becoming overwhelmed. By keeping sessions focused and digestible, students are better able to process new concepts, ask meaningful questions, and build a strong foundation for future growth.

Course 1: Responsible From The Start – Firearm Safety & Ownership for Beginners
Start your firearm journey with confidence! This essential class is perfect for new and soon-to-be gun owners. Learn the Four Universal Safety Rules, how firearms function, and how to store them responsibly—especially with kids in the home. You’ll also explore Ohio’s gun laws and get hands-on practice (with unloaded firearms) in a safe, supportive environment.

Course 2: Fundamentals of Shooting – Building Skills with Confidence
Now that you know the basics, it’s time to build skills! In this hands-on class, you'll learn how to safely and effectively shoot a handgun. We’ll focus on grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control—all through dry-practice drills and simple, instructor-led techniques. You’ll also learn how to clean and maintain your firearm so it’s always range-ready.

Course 3: Legal Use of Force & Personal Defense Plan
Owning a firearm is only part of the equation—knowing when and how to use it is just as important. In this eye-opening course, you’ll explore Ohio’s self-defense laws, Stand Your Ground protections, and how to prepare yourself mentally, physically, and legally for a defensive encounter. Learn how to develop a personal and family safety plan, avoid confrontations, and respond effectively if the worst happens.
