About Palmetto Patriot Firearms Training LLC

After retiring from a sales and marketing career with a Fortune 50 consumer products company and taking some time to settle into my new life, I began getting requests from friends, neighbors, and loved ones asking me to help them learn how to shoot or buy a gun. So, it wasn't long before those same folks asked if I taught Concealed Weapons classes. Thus began my journey into the world of certified firearms instruction. First with USCCA and their Defensive Shooting Fundamentals certification and then NRA's Basic Pistol, Refuse To Be A Victim and RSO certifications. It was at that point that Palmetto Patriot Firearms Training, LLC was founded. The Mission of PPFT, LLC is to provide reasonably priced firearms training classes that focuses on firearms safety and skill development which will allow students to lawfully respond to a violent attack upon themselves or their loved ones.

Instructor Experience: Having grown up in a rural area of Central Virginia, hunting and recreational shooting primarily with rifles and shotguns was a part of our culture. My use of handguns began in 1990 when I bought my first handgun, a full frame Ruger 9mm and have been training ever since. I am a USCCA Official Partner and have instructor certifications from USCCA in Basic Pistol, Defensive Handgun Shooting, AR-15 Fundamentals, Emergency First Aid, Children's Firearm Safety, Basic Handgun for Women, Countering the Mass Shooting Threat, and Concealed Carry & Home Defense, and am a USCCA Training Counselor which allows me to teach instructor level classes. I have been certified by South Carolina SLED and the North Carolina DOJ to teach each state respective Concealed Weapons Permit classes. I recently became an American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/& AED instructor with additional certifications in Bleeding Control and Caring for Head, Neck, Muscle, Joint, & Bone Injuries.

You will see words and phrases such as patient, knowledgeable, confident, affable, encouraging, resourceful, kind, humorous, great facilitator, and caring. I like getting to know my students, giving them opportunities to learn gun handling skills in the classroom and then applying that learning during live fire. To do that I use SIRT, (Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger) Pistols, Inert Training Guns, and a Laser Ammo Simulator. We all have different learning styles, so my class materials are designed to tap into the style that allows you to best retain and implement new information and skills. Utilizing what the body does naturally when stress is applied such as in a violent attack is also integrated into all my classes. I truly love seeing students transform from a first-time gun owner and shooter into a confident and skillful operator.

Cancellation Policy

Classes run regardless of weather conditions. However, if the weather is too difficult for students to safely attend the class I will provide an email notification 24 hiours in advance.

Reschedule Policy

If you find that you need to reschedule a class just contact me at ppft.llc@gmail.com
In your email message please include a future date and time that work best for you.

Refund Policy

While I do not offer refunds, I will work with you to find a suitable date and time to attend the class.

Other Policy

Waiver

After you have registered and paid for a class, I will email you additional class information and a Liabilty Release and Participation Agreement, that you will need to review, sign and bring with you on the day of the class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Does the Basic Handgun Class qualify you to apply for a state issued Concealed Weapons Permit?
Answer: No, the Basic Handgun Class is a class for new or inexperienced shooters that is designed to help you become familiar with the safe operation of your handgun prior to taking a state concealed carry class.

Question: Do you provide rental firearms for any of your classes?
Answer: Do to liabiity issues, I do not rent or privide firearms for any classes.

Question: How old do you have to be to apply for a South Carolina CWP?
Answer: 18

Question: I want to buy a handgun for self protection but know nothing about guns. What should I do?
Answer: Conatct me and I will be glad to meet with you at a local gun shop to help you find the right handgun.

Question: What are the laws concerning carrying a handgun?
Answer: Laws vary by state but you can download an app from USCCA that you can use to learn about each states laws. The app is USCCA Reciprocity and it's free to download.

Question: What does Constitutional Carry Mean?:
Answer: It can vary by state. In South Carolina for example it means that anyone who is 18 yrs old or older, can legally be in possessiion of a handgun, and is a full time resident of the state can carry a handgun either open or concealed without needing a state issued permit.

Question: Do states recognize other states Constitutional Carry Laws?
Answer: A universal answer is No. South Carolina SLED offers a program where state residents can take a certified CWP class free of charge. My recommendation is that if you plan on traveling into another state, then you should be on the safe side and get a permit.

Question: Is North Carolina a Constitutional Carry state?
Answer: CC legislation has been introduced in N.C., but it has not been voted on or signed into law by the Gov.

Question: Are there self defense classes for non gun owners?
Answer: Yes! I teach a Pepper Spray class that utilizes three different ASP, (Armament Systems & Procedures), delivery system options, Gel, Stream, or Mist. ASP is a company that a majority of LE Agencies use for their equipment and training needs.

Question: Are there any courses available for children and firearm safety?
Answer: Yes, I offer Children's Firearm Safety Fundamentals classes that are age specific.

Question: Where do you teach your classes?
Answer: I teach primarily at Pappy's Gun Shop & Range located at 4955 Tinkers Creek Rd, Edgemoor, SC 29712

Question: I just moved to South Carolina/North Carolina and had a concealed carry permit from my old state. WHat is the process for obtaining a permit from my new state?
Answer: Both South Carolina & North Carolina will require you to take a state approved class and then apply for your permit.
