My background includes practical application, academia, teaching, and writing.
- I've been on staff at Gunsite Academy since '01, I'm a range master (lead instructor) for several courses, including the pistol-mounted optics classes. I have also taught for Aimpoint and on contract for others;
- After 29 years of full-time, sworn law enforcement, I retired as a patrol sergeant in 2019. I worked patrol, community-oriented policing, gang suppression, narcotics, field training, and use of force/firearms. As a supervisor, I ran a patrol shift along with the use of force/firearms and field training programs. I both supervised and was involved in a number of critical incidents during my career;
- My service in the US Army and the National Guard was during the Cold War and the GWOT, including a ground combat deployment as a weapons squad leader;
- In between all of that, I have written for several publications;
Academically, I have a Masters's in Public Administration degree with an organizational leadership concentration. My focus was on training and use of force issues.
All of that comes together when preparing and presenting my classes.
