About Northpointe Training, LLC

Northpointe Training's Chief Instructor, Candy Petticord, has been ecstatically married to her bestest bud, Jim, for 30+ years and they have twelve Pettipeeps, all of whom are skilled shooters.

Candy began her shooting journey when she received her CCW Permit and realized, with a ridiculously high amount of clarity and discomfort, that a day’s training and a plastic card from the Sheriff’s Office doth not a skilled and/or competent shooter make. Having been heavily influenced by her CCW Instructor on the critical importance of life-long training for CCW/CHL holders, Candy firmly believes that everyone using a firearm or carrying a firearm for self-defense must seek out and commit to engaging in quality and on-going firearms training. She also ardently believes that educated, trained, law-abiding, and skilled “good guys” with firearms make for safer communities. With this in mind, she has avidly pursued firearms and self-defense trainings for herself and her family, and she is enthusiastic about sharing with others the awesome trainings, wisdom, and guidance she has received.

Candy is an NRA Training Counselor, an NRA & USCCA Certified Instructor in multiple disciplines, a Rangemaster Certified Pistol Instructor, the Training Coordinator for Buckeye Firearms Association, an NRA CRSO and Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor, a U.S. Law Shield Instructor, a Chapter Facilitator for three Ohio Chapters of A Girl & A Gun Women's Shooting League, an IBDD Certified Instructor, a MUNIO Self-Defense Certified Instructor, a former Chapter Leader for The Well Armed Woman, a board member for FASTER Saves Lives, the Ohio State Director for the DC Project – Women For Gun Rights, a member of the IDPA, a Life Member of the NRA, and a Life Member of Buckeye Firearms Association. She is also owner and Chief Instructor for Northpointe Training, LLC, and a dealer for Laser Ammo and MantisX firearm training systems and MUNIO Self-Defense Kubaton Keychains.

Besides traditional firearms training, Candy also has training in defensive knife, personal self-defense, tactical rifle & shotgun, impact weapons, non-traditional self-defense techniques, Image Based Decisional Drills, active killer response, church security team training, home defense strategies, first aid and tactical medical response, MUNIO keychain self-defense, and oc pepper spray use.

Candy has successfully trained with renowned instructors including Daniel Clevenger, Drew Ferringer, Mr. John Benner, Sylvester Pocius, Andrew Blubaugh, Klint Macro, Tom Givens, Michelle Cerino, Philip Toppino, Greg Ellifritz, Forrest Sonewald, LouAnn Hamblin, Chris Cerino, Morgan Hayes, Bud Moore III, Kerry Dugan Jr., Monique Hayes, and Jessamy Bright. She is an alumna of D&D Firearms Instructors LLC, Tactical Defense Institute, Buckeye Firearms Association, LouKa Tactical, Patronus Training, Cerino Training and Consulting Group LLC, Morgan Hayes Training, W.O.F.T., Apex Shooting and Tactics, LLC, SIG Academy, Sly Tac Training/E.A.S.T. Group, Alliance Safety Solutions, Strategos International, Ohio Personal Protection, Spartan Medical Concepts, Premier Shooting & Training Center, and other training facilities and she is a published author.

Northpointe Training, LLC is truly a family affair as Candy’s loving husband, Jim, and her amazing son, Michael, are also certified firearms instructors, and her son, Daniel, and daughters, Abby and Naomi, are exceptionally talented marksPettipeeps. 😎🎯😎

Candy is passionate about sharing her skills, trainings, and protector/defender mindset with others, and she uses her warmth and sense of humor to instruct and encourage people, especially ladies and youth, who want to own the responsibility of being their own first responder by preparing for their personal safety and the safety of their loved ones. 🥰

A-Team Training!!

5 stars

From: D.J.

Last night's training was so amazing. We're really able to take the training seriously while also having fun and shootin amongst other women with different skill levels. My instructors are the best!

A-Team Special Training Opportunity

5 stars

From: LB

Hi Candy,

Thanks for the A-Team special training opportunity. I really liked the more focused time with the Petticord crew than we normally get at a GNO, and always pick up something new or have something reinforced. (Gotta keep the thumb on the frame.) I especially liked the practice time with the holster toward the end of the training.

Thanks again,

Outstanding And Fun A-Team Training!!

5 stars

From: A.W.

Thank you Candy & crew for your outstanding class and drills! There is never a dull moment in your training. While keeping safety a high priority, you always make it interesting, fun and challenging in order to encourage and enable growth and self confidence in others. There is always something to learn and your teaching methods and classes are phenomenal!

Advanced Firearm Training with Holster Draw

5 stars

From: B.W.

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege to take the "Advanced Firearm training with Holster Draw" class at the Parma Armory. Candy, Forrest, and the rest of the crew were wonderful and we had a great evening of learning and shooting.

Our class was small, and this worked to our advantage as we received a lot of Individual attention as well as lots of range time.

By the end of the evening, I was no longer intimidated by the prospect of drawing from a holster. I know that I still have a LOT to learn. This is just the beginning on my path to feel comfortable carrying and properly using a firearm.

The instructors were professional throughout the class (We did have fun).  There was plenty of time to fix missteps and much attention was given to procedure and safety.

I highly recommend this class to anyone.

Advanced Firearm Training with Holster Draw

5 stars

From: M.W.

Hi, Candy...thank you again for the holster draw class Monday. Unbelievable...sums it up in a single word! There is so much more to drawing from a holster than I ever thought. You and your "gang" are a delight to learn from and be in class with. The small group atmosphere makes it a very enjoyable class experience.

Keep up the good work!

Looking forward to more exciting classes.

December A-Team Training

5 stars

From: K.K.

If you think shooting a gun is just “point and click,” you're wrong and before last Friday’s A Team Training, I might have agreed with you. Forrest taught us how to properly draw and reholster, how to walk and keep our sights on target while shooting, how to take cover and shoot from behind a barricade, and why we might not always be able to shoot with a two-handed grip. I could go on and on!! What I can tell you is this, dry fire, dry fire, dry fire!! You can't practice too much. The next time Candy offers a training class, sign up for it. You won’t be sorry.

December Special A-Team Training

5 stars

From: K.S.

Thanks for hosting the special A-team training session Friday at Parma Armory.

The move and shoot session was a great opportunity for me to venture out of the standard shooting range format and try something different. I hope there will be another move and shoot session in 2024.

Thank you and happy new year!

MUNIO Class Review

5 stars

From: M.W.

You knocked it out of the park...again! Your MUNIO class caused me to think about a number of potentially dangerous situations and what to do if they were to happen. Kudos to the Pettipeeps - so much knowledge and insight in ones so young. And good sports, too!

USCCA Introduction To Defensive Shooting Fundamentals Course

From: K.M.

The training you deliver is personable and professional, and you make it enjoyable as well as enlightening. Thanks to you and Forrest for training well delivered.

Introduction To Defensive Shooting Fundamentals

From: R.S.

I just want to thank you again for the excellent and engaging class on Sunday and express my regards to all involved.

Please keep me up to date on all future classes.

Introduction to Defensive Shooting Fundamentals

5 stars

From: F.P.

I attended the Introduction to Defensive Shooting Fundamentals class on Sunday, January 28,2024 at the Parma Armory and was very impressed with the quality of the presentation, the depth of the material and the competence of the supporting staff.

The course material was presented very well and the range activity was safe and extensive. The LEO (Forrest) was very informative and provided excellent demonstrations.

I was able to get a lot of valuable range time and reinforcement from the staff and their concern for range safety was excellent.

I learned new things and reached a better understanding of the responsibility I have when I carry a weapon.

Candy, thank you for creating a good training session.

NRA Certified Range Safety Officer Course

5 stars

From: J.M.

I enjoyed yesterday’s class, it made us think and evaluate/reavaluate why you should always be aware of what is going on around you. And not only on the range!

CCHDF - Basic & Advanced Skills With Holster Draw

5 stars

From: R.S.

I attended the Basic & Advanced Firearm Skills with Holster Draw. Your family did a great job. You must excuse me I have a terrible memory for names. Your son who conducted the class did an excellent job blending instruction, coaching, stress, and positive feedback skillfully. It was an enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience. Dave, your other son, was very helpful to me as a coach and offering encouragement. I look forward to future classes.

NRA Certified Range Safety Officer Course

5 stars

From: K.K.

Yesterday’s RSO class was an eye opener. I had no idea the responsibilities an RSO has. There was good discussion interpreting what the rule is or what it means. I will have to reread my manual. Too much to take in at one time.

CCHDF - Basic & Advanced Skills With Holster Draw

5 stars

From: H.H.

This was my first class with Northpointe Training. The class was Basic and Advanced Skills With Holster Draw, taught by lead instructor Michael Petticord. His assistants were Daniel and Abby Petticord. The instructor team was great. They made the class challenging and provided individual guidance to students allowing each of us to successfully complete ever increasingly complex drills. Abby’s one-on-one guidance was precise and super helpful. All this was accomplished in a positive class atmosphere. It was an educational and fun afternoon.

NRA Certified RSO Training

5 stars

From: S.W.

The RSO Class 2/3/2024 taught by Candy Petticord was very informative and fun too.  The Emergency Procedures were especially valuable to me and the practice ‘skit’ helped to see how confusion can be avoided in an emergency situation.  Class participation was great.  It’s a long day, but it goes by pretty fast.

Introduction To Defensive Shooting Fundamentals

From: Anonymous

Every time I get a new firearm, I take this class with Candy and her team. It helps me review the foundations of my training and get comfortable operating new hardware. I cannot recommend this team enough- they create a low pressure environment and deliver a high impact training. I always feel more confident in my skills and more at ease about defensive decision making after a training session with Candy & Co.

Ron Dodge’s Pistol Diagnostic Course - MOD 1

5 stars

From: M.W.

Class was intense and tiring, but the amount of hands-on training was phenomenal and well worth it. Ron and Scotty are so knowledgeable and treat us all with great respect. We are very fortunate to have you and your family as trainers, and Parma Armory as a great facility.

Oops...forgot to mention Forrest! He is also knowledgeable and excellent as a trainer, not to mention funny!

Thanks for hosting this class.

Ron Dodge's Pistol Diagnostics: MOD 1

5 stars

From: E. C.

I attended Ron Dodge’s Pistol Diagnostics Modular Training 1. Thank you Candy for making this class possible!! I am very grateful to have classes like this to help me feel more comfortable with my firearm. I am a beginner shooter, and I learned a lot about grip, drawing from a holster, sights, and trigger. Ron and Scott took as much time as needed to ensure all questions and concerns were addressed. They were very careful to explain the drills and the reasoning behind each one. I appreciated how very approachable and hands on both were with their expertise. I really enjoyed this class and look forward to the other mods and course offerings!

NRA Range Safety Officer Training Course

5 stars

From: D.F.

Thank you again for the excellent RSO Training Class yesterday. You were able to make 8 hours go by very quickly and presented the information in an engaging and informative manner. I appreciate how you challenged us during the live exercises by being intentionally uncooperative, which helped to put us in a more realistic situation in a controlled environment. You love the subject and the firearm world and it shows in your enthusiasm towards the subject. I greatly look forward to the instructor training weekend we have coming up at the end of May and even more training in the future. You are an asset to the Cleveland firearms community. video icon
